The fermented extracts here aren't just marketing: lacto-fermentation breaks down plant compounds into smaller molecules that absorb more readily and are generally better tolerated by sensitive skin than their unfermented counterparts. The "gentle exfoliation" claim comes from the fermentation process itself producing lactic acid as a byproduct — it's mild and incidental rather than a targeted exfoliant dose, so don't expect it to replace a dedicated AHA, but it does contribute to the smoothing effect over time.
